Oh, for Pete’s Sake

Jesus’ first words to Simon Peter were “Come, follow me.” (Mark 1:17), Jesus’ last words to Peter were “You must follow me.” (John 21:22). Every step of the way between these two callings, Peter never failed to follow – even though he often stumbled.

Peter knew about persecution. He had been beaten, jailed, and threatened. Peter knew that faith in Jesus is the most important thing in life.

That’s why Peter wrote letters to offer encouragement to suffering Christians scattered throughout the Roman Empire. Rome was obsessed to rid the entire empire of the ‘Christ-ones’ (Christians) – those who would not bow to Caesar.

Trials will come to Christians. When they come, remain faithful to God.
