Apostle Luke
A Doctor, Disciple, and Historian Luke was not one of the original 12 apostles, possibly an apostle from his role when Jesus sent out the 72. (Luke 10:1-12) Luke was a Gentile doctor living in Antioch, which was famous for its arts, science, and medical schools. Luke had a traveling medical practice and served as apostle Paul’s personal physician. Luke focused his writing on Jesus’ compassion and power on the poor, the sick, and the outcasts, and the way Jesus treated women. In his writings the Book of Luke, he conducted thorough research, consulting eyewitnesses and getting personal testimonies, such as from Mary, Jesus’ mother. And in the Book of Acts, Luke wrote about the outpouring of the promised Holy Spirit and the gospel of Jesus Christ going out to the ends of the earth.
