Jesus’ Grandmother – Anne

Anne was born in Bethlehem, the city of David. She was a descendant of King David. She was married to Joachim, who was much older than her. He was also from Bethlehem and a descendant of David. They were a wealthy and devoted couple who dedicated their lives to God, and lived near Galilee, but they were unable to have children.
They prayed earnestly to God for a miracle, and they promised to dedicate their child to God’s service if He would grant them a child, male or female. And the Lord granted them a daughter, and they named her Mary.
Anne and her husband witnessed the birth of their grandson, Jesus. Anne was a great spiritual teacher to Jesus, in his younger years.
While the New Testament does not explicitly name her, apocryphal texts such as the Protoevangelium of James (the Gospel of James-The Birth of Mary) recounts the story of Joachim and Anne.
