Jesus, Friend of Sinners
The phrase “friend of sinners” comes from passages in the Gospels.
In Matthew 11:18-19 …and they say, ‘Look at him! A glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!’
In Mark 2:13-17 …On hearing this, Jesus said to them, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”
And in Luke 7:33-34 …The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and you say, ‘Here is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.’
If Jesus was a friend of sinners, then so should we be!
We need to love, not be liked.
