Jesus’ Grandfather – Joachim
Joachim was a wealthy man living in Nazareth from the Tribe of Juda, and a descendant of King David. Joachim was a cabinet maker and linen trader. He had a strong faith and was very patience and devoted to God and his family, yet they were unable to have children.
They prayed earnestly to God for a miracle, and they promised to dedicate their child to God’s service if He would grant them a child, male or female. And the Lord granted them a daughter, and they named her Mary.
Joachim and his wife Anne witnessed the birth of their grandson, Jesus. Joachim was a great spiritual teacher to Jesus, in his younger years. Teaching the importance of traditions, customs, and the power of prayer.
While the New Testament does not explicitly name her, apocryphal texts such as the Protoevangelium of James (the Gospel of James-The Birth of Mary) recounts the story of Joachim and Anne.
